IMPORTANT: THIS ARTICLE IS MADE ONLY FOR GEOGRAPHIC REASONS, since about 20% of Inhabited Land is used for sex and related activities. The article MUST remain in a way that it's not aggressive for any resident. Please, don't upload explicit pictures here and try to avoid listing explicit names of places. Keep in mind that this might harm others.

For permissions, conditions, behavior, restrictions and punishment, all related to sexual activities and 'adult' content, see terms of use.

A high detailed description of all sex-themed category of places would take too much time and is subject to change. On the other hand, this article was created by a Geograph and not by a person with experience in those activities found in adult land. On the other hand, a listing of places might be linger then memory limits for this article and might create discrimination between land owners.

Warning: Sexual abuse is harassment and is punished both by law and Linden Lab. In some cases, this can leave to account termination and blocked access for any alternative accounts.

For its many devotees, the Second Life virtual world is a place where the everyday constraints of normal life drop away and vivid fantasies can be played out. But fact and fiction have collided. 'Virtual Land' is Virtual Space in Second Life that we license. Second Life includes a component of Virtual Space that is stored on our Servers and made available in the form of virtual units ('Virtual Land'). Virtual Land is the graphical representation of three-dimensional virtual world space. . L$300 will be deposited to your account weekly to shop. Position across the grid

A big part of all Inhabited Land is used for sexual activities. This includes from small parcels to entire sims. The Linden official position is that in General sims, explicit adult content is forbidden, in Moderate places adult content is allowed only behind closed doors, while in Adult sims, there are no restrictions. As a direct result, sexual content is found almost only in 'adult' land, but not only.

From the start, a strict separation is needed between 3 main categories of sex-related places:

Second Life
  • Residential land content (not the subject of this article), not listed on search (for example, if a resident decides to has personal sex toys at home)
  • Sex-themed parcel (usually listed on search, usually on 'adult' land)
  • Sex-themed sim (mandatory 'Adult').

As can be seen from here, NOT all land ranked 'Adult' is a sex-themed place.

Mainland

Zindra is the adult continent, where majority of sex-related places are. Still, there are many residential parcels, Protected Land (roads and waterways) and many buildings and parcels created for other reasons (like roleplay, correctional facilities, clubs or shops). Despite the incredible toleration inside adult land, seeing a naked avatar walking on the roads of Zindra is something rare.

Estimations are that land used for sex in Zindra is between 30 and 50% of inhabited land.

For other Linden-owned continents, except Sharp Continent which is 'General', land used for sex is between 1 and 3% of all land and between 2 and 5% of all Inhabited Land.

Private land

The most accurate data is found on private-owned land. This is because private sims are much more easy to be themed. Results are as follows:

  • 10% of sims are sexual-themed by their names
  • about 15% of parcels by surface are sexual-themed.

As anybody can guess, 'adult' land is more used for this, but on private land, also 'moderate' land is.

There are many parcels or entire sims created for hangout (like a club) that have extra places for more intimacy (like a skybox or a backroom where avatars cannot be seen). So, if we think about that, the result is different. About 20% of all private-owned land is used for this reason. So, we can say that there are 2000 private-owned sims created for sex, but sexual-themed content occupies about the surface of 4000 sims.

Sexual orientation

If someone performs a random-teleport through the grid, that person will find for sure, in 100 teleports, at least one place that is designated for a sexual minority.

Classic heterosexual

Not to be confused with BDSM,these are the most often found places on the grid. They are found in many areas and are found also on 'moderate' land. They vary in many forms, from small parcels to entire sims, from more intimate places to public areas.

About 60% of all sex-themed places are made for this, including a high number of sims. A further classification, based on intimacy, is needed, but very hard to make. As seen on Gridsurvey, 'Adult' places are increasing in number, with a direct result of increasing sex-related places.

LGBT

Under this name are known lesbians, gay people, bisexuals and transsexuals. They have plenty of areas to hangout, to sail, to flirt and to have an intimate life. IGBC Continent (gay) and Mar Lesbiana are two continents, created around 2013. Curently, they are growing. GAY Microcontinent is another example. There are more then twice gay places on the grid then lesbian places. Small LGBT parcels can be found almost anywhere, easy to recognize by the presence of their seven color flag.

LGBT places represent about 5% of all grid size, but they are not always places for sex. For example, both IGBC Continent and Mar Lesbiana are almost entirely sailing places. Still, around 20% of all places for sex are for LGBT people. This was not the situation in 2012, when these places were far more rare.

BDSM

This category includes people that are addicted to violent sex (bondage, forced, kidnapped, rape and others). Many of them look like prisons and some really are correctional facilities. These type of places are not rare. They represent about 20% of all sex-themed places and their number has a tendencies to remain the same.

Third gender

Across the grid, there are places created for a third gender. Their places are more rare on the grid, so finding them can be a bit tricky. This is why representative places are listed:

  • Herm places (a herm might not look like a human always) - see Herm Hideout
  • T-Girl places (a female with male genitalia) - see Bare Sun
  • Sissy places (feminized men) - see Velvet Crossing.
  • Others.

About 1% of all sex-themed places are reserved for these minorities, but avatars can be found in many other areas around the grid.

Self

The most rare case is self-sex or masturbation. In fact, this is what many people really do while watching their avatars in sex-themed areas. Sex is more rare in these places, people prefer to self-pleasure themselves or to watch others. These places are useful for two reasons: they are a starting point for shy people to find their way through and an opportunity for those addicted to sexual harass and violence to calm down. For this reason, I decided to list these places: Onan - the masturbation sim (Onan) and Love Thyself Masturbation Village (Mojoe).

Others

Another category is represented of places where an avatar can have a relation with a scripted object that looks alive (like an alien, see Alien Worlds), a monster, a ghost or an animal). They are very rare.
